Allouette Divine and Jessie Coppermen
Chatoyant and Andrew Martin
Chatoyant warmed up calmly for Andrew on the dirt track at Green Horse Fields, watching his workmate Allouette Divine squeal and throw minor fits, not to be rude or because that was just her personality, no it was out of excitement. Divie was known to only act up during warmups.
Tayo was a bit of a surprise horse lately for Grayson Meadows, after winning his maiden he managed to pull off a slight upset in the June Juvenile Dirt Faceoff, where he beat out Daring Vision and the highly acclaimed Siren Call, then he moved on to a massive upset against G4 Sun King in the Frizette Stakes and did it with authority. Steve was hoping for a repeat in his next few starts, because Sun King was likely to be entered in most of them. There was all kinds of buzz around Tayo and Sun King's next meeting, and talk of a possible rivalry between the two. Sun King appeared to be the better of the two, already reaching G4 status and having a pedigree that most racing owners would kill for. Not to say that Tayo didn't either though, being by two Grade 1 sprinters the grey colt had talent to burn. The Frizette Stakes posed a challenge to Tayo, but he aced it. Tayo had heart, and he had a loveable personality which made him that much better. Tayo was proving to be a big threat to the Juvenile dirt sprinters.
Tayo's next race would come in the G5 7 furlong stalking derby. The race was a step down from what he had previously run in, but the competition was just as stiff. Lethal Dose may only be a maiden winner but loomed as a great threat to Tayo, with more experience Tayo would have to watch his back. Next Barely A Sound was a threat to him too, with the same amount of wins and more experience she was just as capable of taking home the win, however Tayo was more consistent. Jazzasoleil was the horse that could pull off the upset, with only a maiden win, she was more consistent than Tayo, but not as battle tested.
Andrew would have to be careful in where he would place Tayo, Jazzasoleil was likely to go for the lead because no one else would want it. Lethal Dose would stalk and Barley A Sound would be back with Tayo in the mid-pack area, or known as the back of the pack for this race. Tayo would stay at the shoulder or in front of Barley A Sound. Andrew would then pick them all off and drive Tayo to the finish line.
Divie was something else, she prevailed in the Quick Cup then pulled a second in the Girl's Party, the filly was proving to be a threat to the triple sprinter crowns and tiara's. Steve wasn't exactly sure on where to send her, so they decided to enter her in the triple sprinter tiara and would scratch her and relocate her to the sprinter triple crown if she won the Star Party against the top three year old sprinters in the country. It was a long shot, but as many have said, weirder things have happened.
She had upset Alucard and Optimus Unstoppable in the Quick Cup, and she would attempt to upset Optimus Unstoppable and Alucard again in the star party. To say the race would be easy for her wasn't even close to a true statement, Divie had her work cut out for her. Alucard, Optimus Unstoppable, and Flashpoint were all top notch horses and all were on the top of their game but Divie would have to be ready to tackle the boys and do it with authority if she wanted her place in the Sprints division to be solidified.
Jessie would have to handle his cards smart to win the race though, however Steve wasn't looking for a win, he was looking for a solid prep race for Divie before she went into the grueling Sprinter Triple Crown or Sprinter Triple Tiara. Optimus Unstoppable was a bit of a wild card and hard to predict where he was going to run, hopefully on the lead. Alucard would push whoever went for the lead or he would be it, then Flashpoint would stalk. Divie would be further back in the race, but Jessie would want her to not be too far back, She didn't need to make more ground than she had to. A second or third place finish would satisfy any of them, well except for Divie. The Star Party was a key and important race, and with Divie being the only filly entered, she had something to prove and everyone knew she would do her best to prove that fillies had just as much of ability to win high class races against the opposite sex,
Once the horses had been warmed up, they loaded into the gates with no issues at all. When they flew from the gates, Tayo broke on top. Jessie pushed Divie right up next to Tayo though, he was instructed to push her a bit faster than normal so she would get use to being a bit closer, which would help her chances in the Star Party.
Tayo had a head ahead of Divie and the two where quickly in a rhythm that no one was willing to break until they had to. Their hooves made staccato sounds against the dirt and they sent it flying in their wake. They passed several other working horses while they were at it too. They were going quick, but that was the purpose of the work.
Soon they were on the homestretch and Tayo started his move, but Divie had other ideas. She thrust her head ahead of his and was baring down on him hard, Tayo battled gamely on the rail though. Jessie and Andrew called on their horses for more and more effort and they responded, Tayo never let Divie get more then a head ahead of him, he was digging in but Divie was insistent and got her head down on the wire before Tayo. A solid work, by the looks of Steve and Hadley, who stood along the rail staring dumb founded at a stopwatch. Both of them were ready to pull their upsets, and be the looming dark horses of their divisions.
